The Special Delivery Project is a group of friends in Vancouver, Canada that gets together to bake vegan and gluten free cupcakes and hands them out at a different location in the city once a month for free! No catch! Check here for photographs, recipes, dates of delivery, and locations. <3 |
We FINALLY! orchestrated another Special Delivery day. It took awhile to get organized but I feel we’ll finally be hitting the street each month now. Last Sunday a group of us headed to Grandview Park on Commerical Drive scrapping the idea of standing at the busy intersection of 1st & Commercial in the rain. As we approached the park we noticed a group of other people standing around under some tents. I walked up and a girl turned around exclaiming “Free organic produce!”. I looked back at her and replied “Free vegan cupcakes!”. Hilarious. Turns out every second Sunday the Food Not Bombs crew will be hosting a Free Store at Grandview Park. So we joined their team and handed out cupcakes to them as well as passerby on this drizzly Vancouver afternoon. In exchange we left with some produce and loaves of bread, also there was a guy out there taking free portraits of people.

So I know this is the Special Delivery we give free cupcakes away Tumblr BUT! I have lost my job and have decided to start a vegan bakery out of my house. Read more and maybe check out the website! Special Delivery will be back in April!
So, I’ve decided to finally do it, I’m learning but here it goes, I’m starting a vegan gluten free bakery out of my house. I’m constantly baking so why not share my creations with you, the masses of people out there that want vegan baked goods but cannot bake!
I understand your pain, you want scones with brunch but you have no idea how to cut shortening into flour and suddenly you have scissors in your hand and you feel sweat dripping from your brow, you’re confused, scared… well, I’m here to help!
I’m figuring out this website thing but if you live in Vancouver, want to eat delicious baked goods then I am your gal. Check it out!
but I just lost my job and so this edition of Special Delivery will have to be canceled. Expect us back in April with cupcakes and jobs… hopefully!

Vancouver is about to have it’s first vegan gluten free bakery storefront in Kitsilano. It’s slated to open in coming weeks. If you live in Vancouver show your support by going there and purchasing some treats for you or your friends… or just you. I cannot wait to try their bakery items! They are called Edible Flours.
It’s happening again! March is here, spring showers abound, who knows we may all be out there with umbrellas but we will definitely be there with cupcakes!
Mark your calenders, March 13th at noon our crew of cupcake folks will be out there rain or shine at 1st and Commercial! We’re going to try and hit every corner of that intersection with delicious vegan and gluten free creations!
See you there, we will fill your bellies!

Blue vanilla mini cupcakes. They we’re later topped with white vanilla icing, smurf cupcakes?
The third edition of Special Delivery was small but great! Becca, Jen, myself, and Tim headed to the corner of 4th and Burrard on a beautifully sunny day. I’m unsure as to how many cupcakes we had but I know we had about ten tupperware containers full!
This round we had neon blue mini vanilla cupcakes with white vanilla icing (otherwise known as the Smurf cupcakes), coconut cupcakes with lime buttercream, red velvet cupcakes with vanilla icing, and best of all caramel apple cupcakes with a penuche topping!
The reactions from people in this location were perfect. Some people thought there had to be a catch, how could we be giving away cupcakes for free!? Well, why not? It feels good to go out and do something nice and surprising to unsuspecting people! We stood by the bus stop heading west so people getting off buses were in for a treat! A woman at Pepitas Mexican restaurant offered us free drinks but afterward we all headed to The Naam to gorge ourselves on food and have a beer.
All in all a great success! Thanks goes out to Len who took the photograph above and who was one of the lucky recipients of a free vegan cupcake! He was on his way somewhere but decided to stop, chat, and photograph the event. Links to come to more of his work and more photographs to come soon!
The March edition will be coming up soon and I think we’ll be heading back to our hood of East Van, so look for us on Commercial Drive in coming weeks!
